Data that can be included in a digital report in XBRL is determined in a taxonomy. In simple terms, taxonomies can be understood as tables of contents or templates for financial reporting. However, taxonomies can contain much more, e.g. translations, automatic validation, calculation rules and references to legislation, etc.
Taxonomies are prepared by authorities and standardization organizations for use in companies’ reporting.
